Athlete's Foot (Tinea Pedis)
What is Athlete's Foot?
Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection of the skin. It is commonly seen as many small blisters and/ or peeling skin, surrounded by redness. It can appear on the sole or between the toes. Fungi thrive in warm, wet environments, therefore those who walk barefoot in public showers/ locker rooms, use equipment on their feet that are not properly cleaned or wear shoes and socks for extended periods of time are at risk.
How can a Chiropodist help?
A Chiropodist can prescribe topical anti-fungal medication, thin the nail, surgically remove the nail and provide information on how to reduce the chances of infection. The treatment option selected will depend on the desired outcome and the patient’s health.
